Tidy Ben's Vegan Sloppy Joe's - San Antonio

I am so stoked to finally tell you guys about a new restaurant in San Antonio: Tidy Ben’s! Their main dish is vegan sloppy Joe’s … I repeat VEGAN SLOPPY JOE’S! The slopperia is located alongside the Jokester’s Bar off of South Alamo. It’s a really lovely patio area that is perfect for a fun night out with friends, family and close to some great Southtown shopping!

The menu at Tidy Ben’s is small but mighty with 3 main options to choose from: sliders, tots and Frito pie! All of the flavors are fantastic and Ben does a great job at providing variety with only a handful of ingredients.

First on the list is the flight of delicious Sloppy Joe’s. Ben offers 3 amazing flavors: Fiesta, BBQ and Curry (featured left to right above). The Fiesta flavor has a bit of kick to it with the jalapeños and has all of the classic San Antonio flair in a vegan form. Although I am not a major fan of pickles, this BBQ sandwich sold it for me and I was so excited for that extra zing! The sauce is very sweet and the buns are toasted perfectly. Lastly, the most unexpected flavor of the bunch was the Curry option: it had a great blend of sweet & spicy and I loved all of the creaminess the sauce had. It was definitely the best “meat-like” texture of the day for me.

Next on the list is the Sloppy Frito Pie! This crunchy treat was such a fun meal for me - it reminded me of my childhood where my parents would make chili all the time. I loved the texture of the slop mixed with the chips - not too spicy, though I am sure you could ask for some jalapeños on top. The best part was the vegan queso - I just wish there was more of it! I am a cheese fiend so next time you’ll find me drowning in queso!

Sloppy Tots!!! These were such a fun way to experience the slop! Not only has it been a while since I’ve had good tots, but these also had the amazing topping on them, bringing the dish to a new level. The sprinkle of fresh veggies on top were great to bring this meal together. And of course the crunchiness of the tots!

One thing I really admire about Tidy Ben’s is that he took such a simple idea of missing sloppy joe’s as a vegan and turned it into a business that is reaching across San Antonio. They started as a pop up and now with the slopperia, the menu and location are the perfect beginning to an amazing journey. Make sure to stop by and see them, mostly Wednesday - Saturday or Sunday, check out their latest hours on the Instagram page. Let me know which sloppy meal is your favorite!
